Let the games begin

The 2026 lawn bowling season is about to begin! We have our usual schedule of informal and formal games and tournaments. Here’s how things look as we start out our season. The schedule will likely evolve as the season rolls along with additional games and tournaments.

President’s Welcome Back Tournament – Saturday, May 2

Our first rolling of the bowls can happen during this Saturday event (weather and greens permitting). The event will feature a 10-end game with the players switching positions every few ends. Players should arrive by 12:30pm so we can organize players into teams. The bar and patio will be open so we can socialize and meet each other again after a long winter break.

Social Bowls this season

Social Bowls returns this season at its usual time slots – Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings starting at 10am, and Sunday afternoons starting at 1pm. Plus we’re adding a Saturday morning slot at 10am. The first games begin the week of Sunday, May 3. This is for people who want to come as individuals and play with others. Games are often in pairs or triples, and run about 10-12 ends. Players will need to be present at the Clubhouse at least 15 minutes prior to the start in order for the drawmasters to have time to assign players to teams. Anyone who comes late may need to play on their own.

Evening Leagues this season

Tuesdays  – For players new to the sport, we offer a three week Learn-to-Bowl League starting Tuesday, May 12 at 7pm. Each session will include some instruction, and then opportunity to play various forms of the game so that newcomers can get comfortable with eventually joining in with the other leagues and social bowling opportunities. Shannon Ross Watson and John Pater will provide instruction and direct the games for this league.

Tuesdays – A version of social bowls will occur on Tuesday evenings starting at 7pm. Players can show up each of these evenings, and types of games will be decided depending on attendance. Players are also welcome to come and play on their own if they prefer. The Edmonton Sport and Social Club (ESSC) will be using a complete green on these evenings as well, so there will be lots of energy on the greens.

Wednesdays – youth and junior players will take over one or more greens on these evenings. Players aged 10 and older are welcome to join this program led by coaches Nathan Findley and Charlie Taylor.
