Club Activities

Lawn bowling season in Edmonton runs from May to September. Most days and evenings during the season you can find a variety of bowls game on the greens - recreational, competitive, tournaments and themed events. Our season usually opens with a President’s Day Tournament and barbecue - an opportunity to catch up with old friends, and welcome new members to the club (often first Saturday in May, weather permitting). The season continues with various leagues, tournaments, social, and drop-in bowling. The club will also host several provincial championships over the summer, and occasionally hosts national championships.

Most popular for members are what we call “social bowls.” This is a form of casual, recreational play offered several times a week, where members can drop-in and join others in play. The number of teams and players per team are determined by the number of bowlers present, with experienced players being paired with new and less experienced players. This is a fun way for players at all levels to enjoy the game. Consult the club calendar to see the social bowl timeslots.

There is also more competitive league play, usually several evenings each week. The format of play and team make-up is determined in advance and players commit to participating when games are scheduled!

For new bowlers, there are “learn-to-bowl” sessions running weekly for the first six to eight weeks of the season. New bowlers can sign-up for these sessions and receive coaching in bowl delivery and game strategy. This is a great entry-level way to learn the game and become acquainted with all the other ways that games are played at Commonwealth.

Edmonton’s Commonwealth Lawn Bowling Club welcomes people of all ages and abilities - lawn bowling is a sport that everyone can participate in!
