Hours for bowling remain the same:  Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:00am, Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7:00pm, and Sunday afternoon at 1:00pm.

  • Daily protocols and procedures remain the same as previously advised.
  • Just to be clear, mask wearing and physical distancing are still required under AHS, City of Edmonton and Bowls Alberta requirements.  Maintain that 6-foot distance.
  • The bar may now open for consumption on the outside patio only!  Six-foot distancing must still be maintained as per AHS requirements.  Mask on if you enter the clubhouse.
  • A reminder that we need all bowlers to volunteer for day safety officer, draw master and cleanup lead every few weeks.  The sign-up for these positions is through the pre-registration on-line tool.  Fulfilling these duties is a shared responsibility so all bowlers need to help carry the load. DAY SAFETY OFFICER CANNOT BOWL. Volunteers need to arrive 30 minutes early to prepare.

We are changing the green configuration starting on June 14 to six rinks per green.  For pairs play this will mean 24 bowlers per green and for singles play 12 bowlers per green.  We will start with bookings for 2 greens with one for pairs and one for singles which can be adjusted if necessary to meet demand.  Our greens keeper will be rotating the green use to ensure even wear and use of all greens.  Switching to 6 rinks per green means exchanging ends by travelling down the middle of the green but YOU MUST KEEP 6 FEET APART.

Important changes for how to register for bowling in the next 2 weeks.

When you sign-up we ask that each player register individually if playing in the pairs draw.  No choices for who you will play with, the draw master will assign teams and rinks.  League play is now permissible but the Bowls Director needs some time to set this up and it will only be for set nights.  Expect news on this soon.  You may select a playing partner for the league play.

Any members who wish to stick to playing with a specific person must register for singles play and still make a note in the comments box if registering individually.  If listing the names of both bowlers under one entry then be sure to book 2 spots. Players who are more comfortable playing singles only may of course register for singles play.

VERY IMPORTANT

Pairs teams will be assigned in order of sign in and obviously in sets of 4 so should there be an odd number of registrants they will be assigned to play singles/solo.  For example: there are 13 registrants.  This means that registrants 1 to 12 in order of sign in will be assigned pairs play.  The last registrant #13 will of necessity play solo. SO, WHEN REGISTERING FOR PAIRS, TAKE NOTE OF HOW MANY HAVE ALREADY REGISTERED AND YOUR POSITION ON THE LIST as this will determine what you will actually be playing on the day of bowling.

3 BOWLS PAIRS ONLY with a MAXIMUM OF 12 ENDS or 1.5 HOURS OF PLAY!!  This is necessary to ensure that the volunteers who sign-up for clean-up lead and day safety officer do not have to hang around waiting for someone to finish playing.  We need to be aware that all cleaning protocols must still be followed and we all need to respect each others volunteer time.

NO RAKES at this time as this adds in further sanitizing time and commitment.

When you enter the club and have reported to the day safety officer you may then proceed to the daily draw board (masks on please).  You will find your name disc hanging on the rink play board assigned to a team and a rink.

The leads will receive a jack and the skips will receive a score card.  Each team will be designated as RED or BLACK.

Team RED will be issued a jack with red x’s marked on it – only touch this jack.  Team BLACK will be issued a plain jack so only the lead touches this jack.

The playing mats have been marked with a RED X and a BLACK X.  The RED skip only touches the center X spot, the RED lead only touches the outer corners of the RED X end.  Of course, the BLACK team only touches the correct spots on the BLACK end of the mat.

Since there are no vacant rinks beside you, players must exchange ends by travelling down the middle of the green but ALWAYS REMAIN 6 FEET APART.  Suggest that players from the same end always travel down the right side of center staying 6 feet apart.

We still have distancing restrictions so no knuckles or elbow touching whatsoever.

Every team member needs to help all team players to observe safety protocols.
